The Focal Point on the Family promotes the objectives of the International Year of the Family 1994 and it follow-up processes. It advocates mainstreaming of family issues into national, regional and international development agendas and promotes family-oriented policy making.

The Focal Point engages in dialogue with Governments, UN agencies, civil society, private sector and academics on family matters. It facilitates the exchange of good practices in family policy.
