Global Ageing and the Data Revolution

New York, 7-9 July 2015

DSPD Focal Point on Ageing organized an Expert Group Meeting on “Global ageing and the data revolution - the way forward in the post-2015 environment” in New York on 7-9 July 2015. The meeting aimed at exploring how and which new and non-traditional data sources can support the policy and programme development on ageing issues.

Second United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 27-29 May 2015
 
UNDESA-DSPD is organizing an Expert Group Meeting on “Implementation of the Second United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (2008 – 2017)” under the theme “Full employment and decent work for all” and the inter-agency Plan of Action for the decade from 27-29 May 2015, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of the preparations for the 70th session of the UN General Assembly. 
 
The EGM is intended as a continuation and follow-up of the Inter-agency technical meetings on “Broadening coherence and collaboration for rural development through employment and decent work” held in Rome in November 2011 and “Building employment and decent work into sustainable recovery and development – the UN contribution” held in Turin in November 2010.

Strengthening Social Development in the Contemporary World

New York, 19-20 May 2015

The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on Strengthening Social Development in the Contemporary World will take place in New York at United Nations Headquarters from 19 to 20 May 2015. The EGM will be organized by DSPD/DESA in preparation for the 54th session of the Commission for Social Development. The outcomes of the meeting will contribute to the work of the Commission by providing concrete, evidence-based recommendations for promoting and strengthening social development and for improving the formulation and implementation of policy frameworks that affect social progress. Experts will take into consideration how the Post 2015 Agenda’s implementation can best promote social justice and inclusion.

Disability and development

11-13 May 2015, UN ESCWA, Beirut, Lebanon

UNDESA DSPD coorganized with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) in Beirut, Lebanon, an Expert Group Meeting under the theme “Disability and development: operationalizing the post-2015 development agenda for persons with disabilities” from 11-13 May 2015.

This Expert Group Meeting reviewed lessons learned from field experiences in the implementation of disability-inclusive programmes; and discussed options for and strategies to operationalize the post-2015 agenda.

Dialogue on UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

New York, 27-29 January 2015

The Expert Group Meeting on the theme “Dialogue on an optional protocol to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples”, to be based on the study prepared on that topic (E/C.19/2014/7) and having a focus on land, territories and resource rights, together with all of the rights contained in the UN Declaration, in particular the right to self-determination, self-government and autonomy, as well as issues raised at the thirteenth session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues is being  organized following a decision by the Economic and Social Council, authorizing a three day international expert group meeting. The results of the meeting will be reported to the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at its fourteenth session in April and May 2015.
