UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

On September 13, 2007, the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was adopted by the General Assembly. This decision comes as a result of more than twenty years of work by indigenous peoples and the United Nations system.

The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) is an advisory body to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with a mandate to discuss indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights.

NEW  In the interest of reducing the carbon footprint of the organization, the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues will once again be "PaperSmart" for the 13th Session. The information about the meetings will be available in various digital formats - through an e-Portal - with print-on-demand services in meetings rooms.

What does this mean?

1) We will not have any documents available in the conference room during the Permanent Forum sessions.
2) All documents will be available electronically in all six official UN languages;
3) Participants will be able to email any document or statement to themselves from the PaperSmart portal. No log-in will be required to access the PaperSmart portal. If you would like to have a hard copy, you can request a printed version from conference services or the PaperSmart portal, in any of the six official UN languages. Participants attending the meeting are encouraged to carry their laptops, tablets or mobile devices to the meeting to access the meeting information and documents electronically.

This will greatly reduce the amount of paper, without causing inconvenience to those who need printed copies of the documents. Click here to access the PaperSmart Portal.
