The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) is an advisory body to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with a mandate to discuss indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights.

On 16 January 2014, the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, as well as the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, transmitted a letter regarding the high-level plenary meeting of the sixty-ninth session of the General Assembly, to be known as the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples to the President of the 68th session of the General Assembly.
