Indigenous Peoples at the United Nations

The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) is an advisory body to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with a mandate to discuss indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights.

Representatives of 38 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean met in the Uruguayan capital adpopted a wide-ranging agreement on priority actions on several issues. These include access to sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, young persons’ rights as well as the rights of indigenous peoples.
